New office / R&D building available now at Capital Park, Cambridge

November 22 saw the launch of CPC1, a prestigious 4,538 sq.m (48,840 sq.ft) three-storey building, now ready for occupation at Capital Park, Cambridge. Capital Park is a joint development by Capital & Counties plc and regional developer MPM Properties.

Set in 40 acres of mature landscaped grounds, the new building has 229 parking spaces, equivalent to a generous ratio of one space to 213 sq.ft. net.

The air-conditioned building has been built to a high quality specification in two wings joined by an impressive atrium reception area.

'"Naturally occupiers are being very cautious at the moment but we are able to offer flexible leasing packages which can include both facilities management and technology services such as broadband and telephony. This will enable occupiers to accomplish their moves more speedily and to be in business earlier. We believe this will be particularly attractive to smaller businesses and we are able to cater for occupiers requiring anything from 325 sq.m (3,500 sq.ft),'' comments Gary Marcuccilli of Capital & Counties."

Two further buildings are planned for Capital Park. For more details of the opportunities available, contact joint agents Mike Ayton of CB Hillier Parker on 020 7629 7666, or Will Mooney of Januarys on 01233 326808.

Sculpture competition brings art to Capital Park

A sculpture competition will bring student designs to life at Capital Park - Capital & Counties' office / R&D development in Cambridge.

The competition was the idea of Richard Mutty from Capital Park's joint developer MPM Properties. When he approached Anglia Polytechnic University to run the competition, they were keen to get involved.

Douglas Jeal, the University's Co-ordinator of Sculpture Studies explains why. ''There are few commissions today for sculpture on a grand scale, so it's not every student that gets the chance to see large scale designs become reality. The students were also excited by the chance to design a piece that would be on permanent display in Cambridge.''

Two designs have now been chosen and the sculptures should be on site later this year. The design 'Convergence' from 3rd year student Kay Manning will sit at the entrance to the park, and Associate Student Eve Corder's double helix tower will be erected at a road junction within the park itself.

The selection was based on visual impact and style: 'buildability' and durability were also important considerations. The entries were all of a high quality and very different, so we decided to make room at Capital Park for two sculptures. It was great to find that students had been inspired by the concept,'' comments Richard Mutty.
